I think people around the world are now coming to see not only Japanese art, but also food and local attractions.
Among them, the artist who lives there becomes a trigger. We need to learn things that only artists are aware of.This actually helps create various attractions.

Introduction of Kamakura artists

Francis Shingo

Born in Santa Monica, California in 1969. Currently based in Kamakura and Los Angeles, he has participated in numerous solo and group exhibitions both domestically and internationally. In 2023, his 7m-long masterpiece Liminal Shifts, which was exhibited at the exhibition “Interference” at the Ginza Maison Hermès Forum, received a great response as it made excellent use of the space filled with outside light. His works are held in public collections at the JPMorgan Chase Art Collection, Bank of Spain, Frederick R. Wiseman Foundation, Mori Art Collection, Sezon Museum of Art, Tokyo American Club, and the U.S. Embassy Ambassador’s Residence.

Michael Frank

In the late 1980s, he started working at Kisho Kurokawa’s office, and while working in Koji Hara’s laboratory, became the director of Las Chicas in Omotesando. Therefore, we are working on creating a complex space. After that, he formed the creative unit Sakai with David Duvall-Smith.Created a deluxe building by renting five different industry offices and a warehouse in Azabu Juban. In the shared space, we share work and fun times with other members, such as gangoo exhibitions, PV shoots, stage design for the Unusual Kinoko Dance Company, and soup parties. In 2008, we participated in the international art event “K I T A!” in Indonesia. He has also been invited to participate in the opening exhibition of the Nam June Paik Museum in South Korea and a special exhibition at the National Museum of Israel. After Deluxe, he and his core members will create Super Deluxe, a place for food, art, and music in Nishiazabu.Since 2017, he and his partner Yada have been calling themselves the Space Embassy.Currently trying his hand at landscape architecture, based on his experience creating works using plants and clearing land in Mt. Kamakura.
