Day 1

Gather at Kamakura Station

Michael Frank studio visit 

Michael Frank, an artist who immigrated to Kamakura from the UK and bridges the gap between differences such as “nature/culture”, “new/old”, and “old/young” that exist in Kamakura, and fosters a cultural platform that embraces diversity. It is a studio of. R∞∞T Lab. At this studio, you can learn about the cultural “soil” of Kamakura, interact and dialogue with local artists and creators, and learn about the food (bread made from vegetables, herbs, and natural yeast) that is essential for people to live happily. Experience cultural practices while tasting them.

Michael Frank workshop

Sound art created by NOW HEAR MACHINE, a device that uses vegetables, bonsai, and fermented foods as interfaces to generate music from their biopotentials. A workshop where you can view Michael Frank’s puppet works and installations featuring a variety of plants that incorporate Japanese flower arranging, and have a dialogue with Michael. At the studio, you can make reservations for the purchase of some works by Michael and other artists.

Michael Frank Lunch

Lunch will be prepared by local food artists using ingredients from Kamakura and bread from Paradise Alley at Kamakura Noren Sales Shop. Enjoy a special opportunity to enjoy a meal with artists and art advisors and talk about what hurt you through your experiences.If you are interested, please let us know when you apply.

Yamada Family Fushinan Tea Ceremony Hall

Yamada Sohen-ryu Fushinan is a school of tea ceremony that began with the tea master Sohen Yamada in the early Edo period. Currently, the head office is located in Kamakura City, Kanagawa Prefecture, where it stands quietly in a quiet place far from the hustle and bustle of the city. With WabiYoga, which incorporates traditional etiquette and the spirit of the tea ceremony, you will learn how to build a strong, supple body and beautiful posture. After exercising, refresh yourself with sweets and matcha tea while looking out at the open field.

Black Cube Appreciation

Black Cube is a burnt-out old folk house that stands in a corner of Fushinan. The 100-year-old traditional house, which was reduced to charcoal in a fire but remained intact, is now decorated with contemporary art pieces collected by the head of the house. Black Cube’s appearance itself is a work of art. Guided by an art advisor, please enjoy the “one-of-a-kind” space that can only be experienced here.

Modern Ryokan kishi-ke one building
Private reservation

Located in front of Yuigahama Beach, you can enjoy a private ocean view and Japanese garden. The theme of the inn is “Chisoku”, which is one of the teachings of Zen, and at Kishiya you can experience various Japanese culture such as tea ceremony and incense ceremony. Reserve this inn, which is known only to those in the know. Please have a relaxing time。

2nd day

Modern Ryokan kishi-ke breakfast

This is a course-style meal that pairs Buddhist vegetarian cuisine eaten in Zen Buddhism with multiple types of Japanese tea. Away from the hustle and bustle, spend your morning relaxing while looking out at the sea. Start your day with a relaxing meal of vegetarian cuisine.

ZENexperience Zazen

Zazen is a Buddhist training method in which you sit with correct posture, regulate your breathing, and concentrate on just sitting. Its significance lies in “quietly reconsidering one’s own heart.” Please spend a time where your mind and body are healed and satisfied.

Kiln built by Kitaoji Rosanjin  pottery making experience

Experience making pottery at a historic kiln and workshop in Kamakura that is closed to the public. An art advisor will guide you.Under the guidance of Yoshifumi Kawamura, a potter who inherited this famous kiln connected to Rosanjin from the generation of potter Kitaro Kawamura, who inherited it from generation to generation, pottery is made in the environment of Kita-Kamakura surrounded by nature. Please experience it.

ZENexperience tea ceremony

After making the pottery, we will listen to stories about the spirit of pottery and its history while enjoying a cup of tea in a tea room set up next to the kiln for entertaining special guests. The pieces you create will be thoroughly fired using the power of the venerable climbing kiln, and then delivered to your hands.
